From Sea Point where Jeff grew up and his Dad still lives, it's one block to the paved path over looking the ocean. If you go right or north, you can walk to the lighthouse. Along the way, there are a few playgrounds, grassy picnic spaces, a kayak and boat launch and plenty of dogs, locals and tourists. If you continue on, you end up at the V&A Waterfront (as in Queen Victoria and Prince Alfred). Here there are shops, musicians, crafts, an indoor mall...
If you go left or south from Sea Point, you head towards some of the other upscale neighborhoods of Camps Bay and Clifton. The beaches below are just simply more than. More beautiful and expansive. The homes, condos, and new developments here are in the millions. We've been for sundowners at one of Jeff's friends in this area as well as a few late afternoon swims in the ocean. Well, let me clarify, that would be Jeff having late afternoon swims while I watch, warmly in the sun. Dudes, the water is freaking freezing! My bf is an unusual man who can walk into the water, covering his legs, waist, shoulders then plunge without a flinch. I barely put my toe in the water and felt the cold burn immediately. ;)
Table Mountain, previously mentioned, is always luming. As is Lion's Head. There's also Signal Hill. These are all landmarks (majestic and awe inspiring) which can be hiked, climbed, biked, driven and experienced by guides. I happen to have the best guide of all!
We've gone to the Green Market off Long Street which is filled with loads of African crafts and other wares. Walking along Long Street, you find the urban flavor, the street fashion scene, bars, clubs, restaurants, boutiques, more African craft and collectables, hostels, hotels and general culture. There is a small sampling of fantastic South Africa-based designer fashion. And a lot of imported brands from Quicksilver, Billabong, Puma, Roxy, to Guess, Levi's, DC and more.
The beach nightlife is filled with fantastic restaurants, bars and people-watching. We've been a bit neglectful in experience the late night scene as Jeff isn't drinking and is training early on his bike as the Epic is just around the corner. Nonetheless, it is here and happening...
