We arrived in Knysna yesterday after about a 7ish hour bus ride with other racers. It's quite fascinating to be observing this as a non-rider. There's a ton of tech talk, stories of other competitions and then certainly some testosterone.
Jeff is super lucky to have the partner he does. John is so experienced having done 9 of these types of races. It's incredibly impressive. He's so dialed in to what to do, not to do, how to make sure Jeff has a successful ride -- and since he's a doctor too, it just gives them a nice edge! Not to mention that the race doctor is someone Jeff has known since he's 5. Hopefully he won't need his services!
There is an oncredibly impressive roster of accomplished athletes here. John knows many of them. Jeff has heard of many of them. Ahem, I am so obvious the "support"... hard to explain, but imagine what the athletes look like, and there's me. White chic in her fashion clothes, granted dressed casually, but I'm not walking around all day in tech gear, lycra and wearing sports glasses. ;)
Anyway, I'm off to my volunteer orientation. Jeff and John have gone on a ride. Registration begins at 2 today. Tomorrow is the prologue.
